You Are What You Eat - Basketball Player

Hey there,

Today, we want to remind you of the very important saying:

"You are what you eat"

In basketball language, we say:

"You perform only as well as you eat".

Its true, what you put inside your body can affect your energy,
endurance, concentration and even strength...

Research has shown that even slight levels of dehydration can
affect motor skills and performance, meaning that your jumpshot or
handle might be a little bit off if you don't have enough water in
your body...

Moreover, you need carbohydrates to fuel your body's energy
processes, including energy for your brain.

Protein helps you build and repair muscle, and fats help provide
energy and assist in other bodily functions that are directly
related to basketball.

Here are some short & sweet tips you can use right away to improve
your eating, and as a result, improve how you play on the court:

1) In every single meal, make sure you have a serving of lean
protein, natural carbohydrate and some fat...aim to eat 5-6 small
meals a day.

Lean protein is meat without a lot of fat, such as lean chicken,
turkey, egg whites or even lean red meat.

Natural carbohydrates are basically fruits, vegetables and
whole-grain breads. AVOID white flour, sugar and artifical carbs by
all means.

Good fats come from olive oil, avocados, flax oil and basically any
natural source. The worst type of fats are typically found in
packaged foods.

2) Never overeat...ever! Overeating crashes your metabolism, robs
you of energy, and just plain slows you down. Eat small, frequent
meals to keep your energy levels high.

3) Before gametime or playing serious basketball, get some fruit
and/or honey in your system for more energy, and drink atleast
24-32 ounces of water.

4) Creatine is a good supplement for athletes. Don't worry, plenty
of research supports the use of creatine and its approved in the
NCAA. Creatine helps you stay explosive for longer, so you may want
to experiment with it.

5) After playing basketball, immediately refuel your body with
plenty of good carboydrates(fruits and vegetables) and have a
protein shake. This helps accelerate your recovery and make you
stronger for next time.

So thats it for today's newsletter...

Eat well and play well.
