ATLANTA SELECT 13U LADY SELECTS TOGETHER IN ETOWAH

The 13u Lady Selects 13u White (Coach McCrae), 13u Black (Coach Jackson) and 13u Silver Coach Watson gathered in Cherokee County this past weekend. Above they are pictured together in fellowship.

ATLANTA SELECT "TEAMS OF THE WEEK" APRIL 25

The 13u Boys Team Red and the 13u Lady Select Team Silver are the Atlanta Select Teams of the Week, April 23-25. Both team won championships.

This was the first championship for the 13u Boys Team Red. This team was organized in March 2008 by Coach Anthony Burton who had the desire to form a team following the principles of the Atlanta Select of Education, Life Skills and Sports. The SYNERGY displayed by this team is infectious and has spread throughout the organization. The MVP for the tournament was Dontel Hibber.

The Lady Select 13u Team Silver only has seven players. But this team has proved that seven student athletes working together can topple any foe. This team coached by Coach Watson has demonstrated being a fearless force with Aneesa, Miracle, Tori, Amanda, Ana, Abby and Alex. Aneesa had 28 points in the championship game and was 14 out of 17 from the free throw line.

Congratulations to these boys and girls for winning the NAYBA 13u Regional Qualifier and YBOA 13u Southeast Regional, respectively.

WE PLAY ON SUNDAYS - ATANTA SELECT 14U BOYS RED, 15U BOYS WHITE AND 15U BOYS SILVER

Three Atlanta Select Teams that have opened the season consistently playing on Sundays are the 15u Boys Team Silver, coached by Coach T. Hill, the 15u Boys Team White, coached by Coach Christopher and the 14u Boys Team Red, coached by Coach Mason.

The 15u Silver Team has played on Sunday every tournament they entered this season. It would be a surprise if they did not qualify for Sunday play. They played late Sunday afternoon this past weekend, finishing second to their brother team, the 15u Team Black in the championship game of the D1Spects King of the Mountain Spring Fling. This team is loaded with talent and will be playing many more Sundays this season.

The 15u White Team is noted as one of the most improved team in the Atlanta Select organization. Last season it was late May before the team achieved such status but this year they began the season by qualifying for Sunday play and now for late Sunday afternoon play. This past weekend they finished as "Runner-up" in the NAYBA Hall of Fame Classic with Sir Darius Henry being selected co-MVP. This coming weekend they will be playing in the YBOA State Div I in Columbus, GA.

The 14u Red Team has played two tournaments this season and has earned trophies in both. This team has been a force for years and they have begun this season as such. Last weekend they were crowned as "Champs" at the NAYBA Hall of Fame Classic with Shirquan Henry as co-MVP. This team is planning to continue its winning record.

Atlanta Select is proud of these teams as they continue to maintain very high standards. SYNERGY.

ATLANTA SELECT "AGE GROUP" OF THE WEEK "16u"

The Atlanta Select Players pictured above represent one third of the 16u Boys in the Atlanta Select Program. They come from numerous schools and locales throughout the metropolitan area but they are a unit, grounded in teamwork = SYNERGY.

The Atlanta Select 16u Boys Black (coached by Coach Ty Horton) and the Atlanta Select 16u Boys Red ( Coached By Coach Aaron), both won trophies last weekend. The Black lost in the finals 55- 52 and the Red also lost in the finals 91 - 90. This was the second tournament for both and they are preparing to take the gold very soon. The Atlanta Select 16u Boys White (coached by Coach Foster) participated in a one day scrimmage to test the waters. They are gearing up to do battle soon.

Check the team pages for these teams and see their contributions in the "Trophy Case".

ATLANTA SELECT "TEAM OF THE MONTH ????"

Time Out! The Atlanta Select Boys Teams are claiming "Team of the Week" etc., but how about "Team of the Month" By the Atlanta Select Lady Select 16u Team RED (coached by Coach McCrae). They have won championships this month in Atlanta and Augusta and the month of April is not over. This past weekend the 16u Lady Selects traveled to Augusta, GA to participate in the AAU Super Regional, playing against teams from Georgia and South Carolina and taking home the gold. They are aware that the 15u Boys Team BLACK have won two championships, one in Macon, GA and another in Atlanta, earning a $500 prize. But the Lady Selects have also earned a $500 prize from the same organization. So, Time Out.

By the way, the 10u Lady Select Black (not pictured) (coached by Coach Mandeldove) traveled to Augusta last weekend and also won the Super Regional championship in the 10u age group. Thus, Time OUT again, and give the Dynamic Lady Selects some props.

Miss Yishica Sims was selected MVP. She played hard every game in Augusta with a good attitude and was able to play positions 1 through 4. Congratulations to Miss Sims, and to all the other 250 Atlanta Select students athletes that played last weekend in tournaments all over the state. All of you represented the Atlanta Select well. Keep up the good work.

ATLANTA SELECT "TEAM OF THE WEEK", APRIL 19, 2009

The Mighty Atlanta Select 15u Boys Team Black (Coach A. Hill) is the Atlanta Select Team of the Week for April 19, 2009. This team won the D1 Spects King of the Mountain Spring Fling Classic in the 15u bracket on Sunday, April 19, by defeating their brother team (The Atlanta Select 15u Boys Team Silver, Coach T. Hill) in a hard fought battle. Both teams met in the finals, going undefeated in pool play and bracket play, thus, it would become the clash of the titans in the championship game.

This was the second time this year that two Atlanta Select teams finished one and two in the championship round. The 16u Lady Selects did so two weeks ago (Read previous posts in the Current NEWS). Mr. Tommie Davis (pictured right) was selected MVP for the entire tournament and Mr. Thomas Jones, Jr. (pictured left) was hailed the "Best Defensive Player". Mr. Bradley Street (pictured center) was the highest scorer in the championship game.

Atlanta Select is extremely proud of the 15u Boys age group. They are becoming a force to be reckon with. Three of the four 15u Boys teams won trophies this weekend. The 15u Boys Team White (Coach Christopher) finished second in a NAYBA tournament. By the way the 15u Boys team Black has lost only two games during four tournaments this season. They are vying to become the Atlanta Select "Team of the Year". Please visit their team page to read and see more about them.

With over 300 student athletes in the Atlanta Select program and over 100 playing each weekend, selecting just one MVP of the week is nearly impossible. ATLANTA SELECT TEAM OF THE WEEK

Atlanta Select Team of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 5, 2009 is the Atlanta Select 14u Boys Team WHITE coached by Wallace Lanier.

The team participated in the "NAYBA Above the Rim Showcase" in Lilburn, Georgia, April 3-5, 2009. The 14u team was forced to play in the 16u division because not enough teams were in the 14u division. Against all odds of playing tough opponents aged 16 and possibly 17 and above, the team finished as "Runner-up" in the championship game.

These young student athletes demonstrated "Grown Man Business" as they "Fearless" battled their opponents relentlessly. Coach Lanier and these mighty men of the 14u Boys team WHITE can be justifiably proud of their accomplishment, and thus, achieved the honor as "The Atlanta Select Team of the Week". Go Select.

ATLANTA SELECT GAME OF THE WEEK

Nine Atlanta Select Teams played on Sunday last weekend and they all brought excitement and suspense. But one game stood out; the championship game of the Southside Shootout at Westlake High School. Two Altanta Select "Lady Select" teams were in the 16u finals, the Lady Select RED, coached by Tyrell McCrae and the Lady Select BLACK, coached by Joretta Kelly.

Both teams had destroyed all the other teams they met en route to the championship game, setting up a battle of the Titans! The game was a class act, displaying the talents of the young ladies of the Atlanta Select program. The RED team won, but not without a struggle. The "sister" teams competed hard but joined in the celebration together as sisters are suppose to do. The Atlanta Select is very proud of these young student athletes that played in the "Atlanta Select Game of the Week".

Pictured above is the before the game "Stare Down" between Coach McCrae and Coach Kelly followed by the Red team receiving the championship trophy and a $500.00 check. The two teams joined together to demonstrate their SYNERGY.
