At the beginning of the 2015-16 AAU Youth Basketball Season, Atlanta Select established a goal for capturing 100 trophies as an organization by September 1, 2016.
The goal was based on 33 active teams earning 3 trophies each.
With each team playing at least 8 tournaments it was reasonable that out of 8 tournaments a team should make it to the championship round at least 3 times.
That goal was written down and disseminated to all teams.
I am proud to say with nearly 4 more months remaining before September 1, 2016, the organization is en route to accomplished its goal.
Several teams have played or will be playing in more than 8 tournaments. And there may be teams that play in 8 tournaments and not make it to a championship game. Do we write them off? No! Our underlining concept is, if a team and its players are better as student athletes on Sept 1, than they were on March 1 of this year then the team has been successful.
But why a goal of 100 trophies or 3 trophies per team?
Because Atlanta Select believes in setting organizational goals.

Organizational goals serve four basic functions;
- 1. goals direct action and effort toward goal-related activities and away from unrelated activities.
- 2. goals energize employees. Challenging goals lead to higher employee effort than easy goals.
- 3. goals affect persistence. Employees exert more effort to achieve high goals.
- 4. goals motivate employees to use their existing knowledge to attain a goal or to acquire the knowledge needed to do so.
