The Nationals - The Experience - The Memories

The mighty Atlanta Select 14u Boys Team RED is experiencing the many facets of attending a national tournament. A highlight of today's activities was to have an NBA player sit down with them and provide words of inspiration.

Orlando Magic Adonal Foyle spoke with the team, advising them on how to prepare themselves mentally and physically for a game. He stated that they must know what they want, to do and have fun with it, that these are the steps to get to the next level.

I am sure that these young men will always remember and cherish this event. Thanks Adonal, Go Select.

A Strong Brotherhood Developing

A strong brotherhood is developing between the Laurel-Jones County Elite 13u and the Atlanta Select Boys 13u BLACK team, The teams first met last spring at a tournament in Jackson, MS. The Elite coach, Coach Randy Pettis, was among the first to register his team for the "Warm Up for the Nationals".

He stated he wanted to play the BLACK team who defeated them in Jackson. They did and the BLACK team again was the victor. However, during the tournaments the players and their parents mingled with the Atlanta Select crowd, forming friendships that will last for a long time.

Raekwon Pettis was selected the MVP from the Elite in the championship game. We are positive that we will meet Raekwon, Coach Pettis, the Elite team and their parents quite often in the future in friendly competition. We wish them the best and thank them for traveling to Atlanta to participate in our tournament.

The Texas Cagers Wins Warm Up Championship

Atlanta Select congratulates the Texas Cagers for traveling the furthest to participate in the "Warm Up for the National" and winning the championship in the 17u division. The Texas Cagers basketball organization is a fast growing program from the greater Houston area. The 17u Cagers, under the leadership of Andre Jackson, are a group of student athletes competing in the AAU circuit all over the United States.

So far this season, they've played in over eight tournaments, including the Great American Shoot-out on the campus of Texas A&M University where they finished as the NBA Bronze Champions. Two weeks prior, the Cagers finished as C0-champs in the Adidas Memorial Classic. Their remaining schedule consists of tournaments in Louisiana, North Texas, Oklahoma and Nevada.

The young men of the Cagers are exceptionally talented. Tad Ecby, a junior at St. Pius X High School, is consistently a high scorer along with Kedron Ginn, a junior at Houston Wheatley High. Noteworthy performances are always given by the "BIG PEOPLE" on the team that play down low, Tola Olushola, a junior at Fort Bend Marshall High, Jacob McWhorter, a junior at CHSA and Michael Mitchel, a junior at St. Pius X.

Atlanta Select salutes this outstanding team and thank them for participating in our tournament. We are confident that they are "Warmed Up" for the remaining of the youth basketball summer season.
