Atlanta Select NEWS, Wednesday, Feb 17, 2016

Good Day Select Family,

Wow! I can hardly believe that so many folks are calling me requesting to join the Select organization. Referrals are coming in from the National and State AAU headquarters. Of course we cannot handle all the requests. Many of our teams are filled and we do not have additional teams to accommodate certain grades and certain areas. We need more 8th grade teams, and we need more teams that serve the Cobb and Douglas counties. Before we add teams we need additional dedicated and committed head coaches. I need your help to identify interested and qualified additional coaches that may want to lead a team in the Mighty Select Nation.

With that said, I do not want current head coaches to try and add another team. My guidance is that you cannot lead two or more teams as the head coach. Why? The history of potential problems. Scheduling, sharing time between the teams and most of all unhappiness from the parents believing that you are favoring one team more than the other. Each team must have its own head coach that is directly responsible to me. You can assist in coordinating the actions of that team but overall responsibility is the head coach of that team who is responsible to me. This guidance is based on 25 years of experience and I am trying to prevent problems that you will have trying to coach two or more teams.

I hate to not give a potential prospect a chance to become an Atlanta Select, but if we cannot place a prospect on a quality full time team then it is best to let them look some place else. Just Business.

Over the holiday weekend I had the opportunity to meet with the CADRE of one group of Lady Select coaches and with the parents of the Mighty 8th Grade COLLEGE Bound team. What a pleasure. I was impressed with the organization and planning of the coaches and glad to provide an overview of the organization and our philosophy to the parents. This is all in the spirit of SYNERGY. I am willing to meet with your coaches, parents and/or players to welcome them to the organization and to let them see that I have your back. Just give me a few days notice in advance whereas I can plan to attend. This Sunday I am meeting with the Mighty 9th Grade PRIME team coached by Coach Hall.

As the COO of the organization that is responsible for providing you guidance and direction I will not ask you to do something that I will not do. I have completed my NCAA Certification background check, completed the required course and received my Completion Certificate. I do not plan to sit on any team's bench this year but I wanted you to know that I have gone through the process and it is relatively easy. Follow the procedures in our MEMO for Action Number 6, dated Feb 4, 2016 - NCAA Certification. There are two parts in which you must follow to gain your NCAA Certification. Part one the background check. The cost is $50. It is a thorough check much more in depth  than the check for your AAU membership. Part two, Once you have been notified that you passed the background check you have 10 days to complete the NCAA Eligibility  course. It's free, no test, but you have to go through the entire tutorial. Once completed you will received you completion Certificate with a Completion Code as shown below. Note. I have covered my code because their is only one Atlanta Select Coach Z.

Once you have received your Completion Code, share it with me whereas I can vouch for you if need be. I have received the code for Coach Sanders.

NCAA Certification is only required for coaches planning to coach and sit on the bench during certified events. The Spring Events take place on Apr 15 -17 and Apr 22 - 24. See the events at these two links.

Please note if the tournaments are not listed on these two links than the tournaments during this period are not NCAA certified. Now, let me make one think clear. There are organizations that list tournaments masquerading as NCAA certified.  Be careful.

Now there may be EXPOSURE tournaments. What's the difference? NCAA Certified events have Division I coaches in attendance to watch your student athletes. At EXPOSURE events Division I coaches are not allowed. There may be scouts and others in attendance checking your players out but EXPOSURE events do not carry the prestige and weight as a NCAA Events.

Many of the NCAA Certified events award trophies in several categories. Our policy is that if you win more games than you lost we recognized your team as winners and you are added to the 'Trophy Count".

Coaches, We are Select and we are to provide our parents with timely and correct information on ensuring that our student athletes are NCAA eligible. Take notes from the course that you are required to take and provide your parents and players with correct information. You may have to take the lead in advising your players to register with the NCAA Clearing house, SAT and ACT testing dates,  (https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/dates-deadlines) ( http://www.actstudent.org/regist/intldates.html), respectively, and the required courses that they must take in high school. Guidance should be provided to students athletes beginning in the 7th grade and beyond. I will mail a pamphlet to all head coaches 7th grade and above on Friday with NCAA Eligibility information. But I am holding you responsible to gather the required information and share with your parents and players. We are Select!!!
