Select Nation NEWS, Friday, October 30, 2015

Hello Select Nation Family, Friends and Fans.

It is a Fact that we have a dynamic Program that have dynamic Teams which have produced dynamic Players.

As I watched the Atlanta Hawks season opener last Tuesday, I cheered hard for the Hawks and wanted them to win.  However, there was a player on the Detroit team that I also wanted to do well, and he did. One of the Select Nation's former players that started with us 10 years ago, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

The excerpt below is what was reported in the SB*NATION NEWS about Kentavious' performance against the Hawks.
"But let's talk about the night Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had.
The Atlanta native looked right at home, hitting four threes and totaling 21 points in the season opener. His perimeter defense was also key as he was effective in keeping Kyle Korver off of the three point line. Caldwell-Pope's defensive efforts resulted in one of the best three point shooters in the league managing to only connect once from deep.
But man his threes. These were floating water balloons of goodness, splashing the net for the good guys. I hope Korver has a good optometrist because that third quarter three in his eye might have damaged his vision for good."

His Select team at the time was coached by Coach Watson who I know was watching and was extremely proud of one of his players that he groomed and then went on to excel in high school, the University of Georgia and now in the NBA.

Not only Coach Watson, but we all can be proud for one of our former Select players whose dream came true.
Yes, it is a Fact that our Program produces dynamic Teams and dynamic Players.
Congrats to Kentavious and God Bless.

The Select Nation's goal is not to promise or gloat on sending former players to the NBA, but to successfully prepare young boys and girls, both academically and athletically, for the opportunity to pursue a degree of higher education at the college level.

Thus, we are proud to promote the many players (Student Athletes) that have moved to the next level. Here are a few Lady Selects that played with us several years ago and now doing their thing at the college level.
Coach Mandeldove can be justifiably proud of the ladies above that he coached and are now at the next level.

But these are the stories of only two Select Nation coaches and their teams from about
8 to 10 years ago.
The Select Nation has averaged over 30 teams for the last 8 years and more then
300 student athletes each year. This is just a snapshot of a couple successful of
Mighty Atlanta Select Team and Players.

************
Reports are coming in in how many of our student athletes from last season that have made their school's team.
Coach Lawson (Last Season's Mighty 6th Grade RED team) reported today that 5 of his players tried out and 5 made their Middle School teams.
Even his youngest son, a 4th grader, made the Middle school team.
A special "exception" was made for him.

I am proud to announce a new team to the Select Nation.
Head Coach James Fann will lead the Mighty Atlanta Select Fifth Grade Broncos.

Coach  Fann has years of experience coaching youth basketball and mentoring young men. He will be assisted by Coach Christopher Dames.
We welcome them to the Select Nation and we are glad that
they Selected us and we Selected them.
Just Go Select!!!

An Update on Coach Larry Thompson, now head coach at Green Forest Christian Academy.
He has announced his schedule for the season and the rating services has rated his team to be number 1 in their division.
What a way to go Coach Thompson. Before your first game the rating services have highlighted you and your team to be Number 1. We are not surprise because we know of your capability, dedication and commitment for excellence. You were extremely successful as a Select coach and you are carrying those skills to the high school level. We are proud of you and wish you continued success.

By the way, when we posted the announcement on our website back in August (Aug 10), that post received the most hits to our web site for the 2015 season. More than 800 and counting. Go to "Current NEWS" and scroll down to August and read again about Coach Thompson.

The AAU District/State Boys Championship Calendar has been announced.  You can hurry up and believe that Select Teams will be in all events.

Our Fall Skills Development Camp is Going Strong.  We had our largest group of attendees last Sunday, more than 50. Thanks to the Select coaches that have volunteered their time to come out and conduct the demanding training.

Last Friday, October 23, we celebrated our 10th Anniversary.
It has been  10 wonderful years. Coach Hill and I, (Co-Founders) appreciate the support that has been given in the development and functioning of our organization.
We look forward for many more years in supporting the youth in the area.
Thanks a lot!!!
Remember, time change on Sunday. Fall back at 2 AM, change to 1 AM.
See you at Skills Development.
Have a Great Weekend.
