Select Nation NEWS - Good Friday - April 3, 2015

Good Friday Select Nation,

Earlier in the week I highlighted the 10 teams that were trophy winners last weekend. But the other 11 teams that played had an equally successful weekend. As I often mention, I do not care if a team wins any games during the season but if the players are better in all categories (sportsmanship, skills development, character, citizenship, academic performance) by Sept 1, 2015, then they have had a very successful season, and that is the most important element of the Atlanta Select Basketball Association program. Let's take a look at what the other teams accomplished.

The Mighty 10U SILVER team with Head Coach Harris played in the Georgia AAU District/State tournament solidifying a bid to the AAU Nationals. This was their first tournament of the year and even though they did not finish in the top seeding, they performed in accord with our slogan for the season, PERSEVERANCE, they never gave up. See them at the Nationals.

The Mighty 9U SYNERGY Select with Coaches G and Baskerville divided the team and played in two tournaments, The AAU District/State and the Halftime Sports tournament. No trophies, but again earned a bid to the AAU Nationals and dazzled the crowd from their aggressive play. On another point they still lead the Select Nation in the Trophy Count for the season with five. They will be adding more to the count, very soon.

The Mighty 8U Lady Select BLACK Diamond with Coach Mandeldove played in a local tournament and showed they are a class act. With one trophy earned for the season they are determine to earned more. Watch out, here they come.

The Mighty 13U Lady Select White with Coach McCrae played in their first tournament of the season. No trophies, but played with the grace and style to let the nation know that trophies will come. Proud of these young ladies. We will see and hear more about them later.

The Mighty 14U PRIME with Coach Hall has made it to the semi-finals in the last several tournaments. Just cannot make it over the wall. But they are getting closer each week. Taking a story line from Reggie Miller when he was in a slump in shooting. Asked, What are you going to do to get out of this shooting slump? Answered. Keep Shooting. For the 14U PRIME Team, Keep Playing. Just Go Select!!

All of the teams above were in local tournaments in the Atlanta Metro area. But the Select Nation traveled away from the Metro area and had some of the most dynamic performances last weekend.

The Mighty 15U RED with Coach Burton and the Mighty 15U BLACK with Coach Morris traveled to Norfort VA on the Elevate Basketball tour and played against some of the top teams from the northeast. The RED team was 2-1 in tournament play and was not able to play the last game because of late scheduling on Sunday afternoon. The BLACK team won games by default because the opponents did not show up. They were disappointed because they travel so far and was not able to display their talents on the hardwood. But a most enjoyable trip for all and they represented the Select Nation extremely well. The Director of the Elevate Tour contacted the head coaches and promised a better organized tournament in the next Elevate Tour which will be held here in Atlanta.

Three teams represented the Select Nation at the IceBreaker Showcase in Augusta GA. The Mighty 16U SILVER, the Mighty 16U BLACK and the Mighty 17U PRO. Guess what? They all were 2 - 1 in tournament pool play but failed to reached the playoffs because of point spread. But they all were winners in the top kick off tournament in the southeast. We are proud.

Another exciting weekend ahead of us with at least 10 teams playing. A limited schedule this weekend as there are one and two day tournaments because of the holiday weekend. We wish good luck to all. Check the NEWS on Monday.

Good Friday and Happy Easter to all.

SYNERGY,

Just Go Select!!!
