Good Morning Select Family and Friends,
Each Day I received an "Inspiring Quote for the Day" in my email in box. Thought I would share the one that I received this morning. Along with "Discipline" our theme for this year, "Trust" appear to be the next element that is essential for good team work or SYNERGY. First, your players must display discipline and then, second, trust each other that they will perform what they were taught. I see these two elements displayed in the two teams that have reached the NBA Finals, the Heat and the Spurs. The Heat trusted that their teammates will perform when need be and who is more discipline than the Spurs. Indiana and Oklahoma were lacking in both. Now, that is just my opinion, just something to think about and to start a discussion.
Trust...
“Trust is the glue of life. It's the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It's the foundational principle that holds all relationships.”
― Stephen R. Covey
Kudos to our many teams that are displaying the theme of the Select that the Select Nation is more than basketball. Coach Burton and his mighty 8th Grade RED team played in Maryville, TN last weekend. They were able to visit surrounding colleges and received counseled from Rev (Coach) Roger Wood, from the University of Tennessee. He spoke about the 4 "B", Bible, Book, Basketball and Babes. Subjects that our student athletes need to know about.
The Mighty 6th and 7th Grades COLLEGE BOUND Team with Coach Woods and Coach Johnson, respectively, took their teams on an outing at Stone Mountain.
The team along with their families climb the mountain and had a cookout.
Particularly noteworthy was the efforts of one of the parents. Mr. Mackey coached his wife all the way to the top of the mountain when she wanted to quit several times. He encourage her to continue and she made it, displaying to the student athletes to "See It Through". Start something, finish it! Congrats to the Mackey's.
The trophy count is up to 76 with four teams earning trophies last weekend.
The Mighty 9th Grade CLASSIC Team with Coach Ricker, Champions in the YBOA State tournament. This team has qualified to go to the Nationals of Prime Time Sports, AAU and YBOA. This is their 6th trophy for the season.
The Mighty 9th Grade RED Team with Coach Ferrell, Runner -up. Lost in overtime. This first year Atlanta Select team is making a statement that they are ready to compete at the top level. This is their 4th trophy for the season.
The Mighty 7th Grade Black Elite Team with Coaches Thompson and Stephens. Runner-up. Lost in overtime. Be prepared to see this team in the trophy count many more times this season. This is their 2d trophy for the season.
The Mighty 11th Grade RED Elite Team with Coach Lee. Champions in a D1Spects tournament.
Representing the team are 4 members of the All-Tournament team, from left to right Robert "Trey" Williams III, Dexter Swift, Travis Lee II and Cedric Council, Jr. And as Tournament MVP, Robert "Trey" Williams III pictured below. Trey started as a Select eight years ago and now as a senior, a standout in the AAU circuit. See him at the division I college circuit next year.
