You are invited to Skills Development Training at Price Middle School. Only 3 sessions remaining.
At our last session before the holiday period we were honored to have a guest speaker for our "Life Skills" session, former Atlanta Select player and now college student, Garrett Edison Warren.
Garrett, a graduate of Mays High School, is a senior at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. He played for Atlanta Select and Coach Hill from 2006-2009 as a very talented point/shooting guard. He states that his most memorable experience playing AAU was traveling to the AAU Nationals in Orlando, FL and competing against some of the best players in the nation.
He states that all four years in college have been a blessing. He is majoring in history with a minor in religion. He would like to join the Peace Corps after college.
Garrett told the group that his motivation to join the Peace Corps is based on an experience he had in college. He had the priviledge to study and live in South Africa for 6 months. He states is was an awesome experience to live in a different culture and build relationships with other people from across the globe. He was able to study abroad in South Africa because of the financial help he received from the Gilman program. The Gilman International Scholarship Program is a program that help students who are in need of financial assistance to make their dreams of studying abroad come true. He said he left South Africa with a smile and with no regrets.
Garrett was eagar to answer the student athelete's questions and he left them with these words of wisdom. "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenice, but where he stands at the times of challenge and controversy" - Martin Luther King, Jr.
