Kudos to Head Coach Dwayne Hall for "Seeing It Through". On Saturday, Coach Hall will lead two teams to Cumming, GA to participate in the Georgia Stars Big Shots tournament. His Ninth Grade PRIME and his Eleventh Grade PRIME
team will do battle with numerous teams from throughout Georgia and the surrounding areas. What makes this so significant is that Coach Hall's wife, Mrs. Shelah Hall, had planned surgery on Friday, which was successful and we thank GOD for that. He stayed by her side and continued to plan for his teams.Even under those stressful conditions Coach Hall, with the support of his assistant coaches, is still guiding 20 plus young men in an EXPOSURE tournament this Easter Weekend. The Atlanta Select Family wishes Mrs. Hall a speedy recovery and we wish the PRIME Teams in Big Shots much Success. Go Coach Hall, Go Select!
Six of the seven Atlanta Select teams participating in the Eric Snow tournament this weekend saw action Friday night. Most played two games and five of the six earned a win. The only team that was not successful was the Mighty Sixth Grade SILVER team. Well, we say, NO EXCUSES, but take a look below at number 21 on the opposing team. He was a rebounding machine. May need to check his birth certificate.
But we are proud of this gallant team, who won more trophies (6) than any other Select team last season. They are getting off to a slow start this year, but it is still early. This team is full of surprises. Just ask Coach Z what occurred last year at one tournament.
The Seventh, Eighth and all three Ninth Grade teams won a game Friday night. But the highlight of the night was the game between brother Atlanta Select Teams, The Mighty Ninth Grade GRAND vs. The Mighty Ninth Grade SILVER. The game changed lead at least 10 times with the SILVER team earning a 51-47 win. Both teams can be justifiable proud of their effort.
On Saturday morning at 9:00 AM, the Mighty Tenth Grade CLASSIC team coached by our CEO Coach Tony Hill will begin their participation in Eric Snow. This team is in a pool with three Eleventh grade teams and two other Tenth Grade teams. But have no fear, Coach Hill will be there, and we can hurry up and believe that there will be some exciting games.
I want to send a special "Shout Out" to Coach Jerry Salley (brother of NBA Star Jon Salley, if you did not know) who spotted unsportsmanship among one of our players after a game and took corrective action immediately. He did not wait to talk to the player later but made on the spot correction, enforcing our "Code of Conduct" and teaching our young player what good sportsmanship is all about.
That's the Atlanta Select way. And we thank you Coach Salley. We are proud.
Our Videographer, Coach Patton, will be recording some of our games at ATTP today. Just go about your business. He is recording history.
On the other side of town, Coach Gates and his two teams, the Mighty Ninth Grade BLACK 8732 and the Mighty Eleventh Grade MIDNIGHT destroyed their opponents in the Georgia Tarheel's tournament. These two teams just keep moving along, taking GA Tarheels' trophies in nearly every tournament in which they participate. What can I say!
The funny thing about it is, that some of Coach Gates' Ninth Grade players play up to help the Eleventh grade players out. They must be good. Just saying.
Have a Safe and Happy Easter.
