Atlanta Select - More Than Just a Basketball Organization
Atlanta Select uses basketball as the conduit to the programs of Education, Life Skills and Sports to develop student athletes into productive citizens. One cannot play basketball for the rest of his/her life but one can always find a way to serve others. Thus, Atlanta Select exposes its students athletes to a variety of meaningful programs outside of basketball.
The 17u Boys SILVER team under Coaches Payton, Fullard and Paige are always looking for opportunities to serve others. The team has become a partner with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in its fundraising efforts.
St. Jude is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. No child is ever denied treatment because of the family's inability to pay. Thus, the hospital relies on fundraising activities to support its operations.
Recently, the 17u SILVER team supported the Great Urban Race event the hospital held to raise funds. The team members registered participants, distributed t-shirts passed out water and cheered the the racers as they flooded the finish line. The team worked extra hard and represented Atlanta Select extremely well. They do more then play basketball, thus, they are more then a basketball team. Go Select!
