What's Going On, Select Nation NEWS, Tuesday, July 22, 2014

Good Morning Select Nation,

One hundred and fourteen, (114), that's right. Another milestone. We established a new goal of 110. And now we have passed that. Lets try for 120.

We earned 7 last weekend. Three basketball and four baseball for the baseball season. More about the baseball later.

Three teams that participated in the ONTHERADARHOOPS Certified event finished in the trophy round, first, second or third. Coach Gates and the Mighty Eleventh Grade BLACK team were crowned champions. Coach Mays and his Mighty Tenth Grade BLACK Team finished second in the tenth grade category, by the way their first trophy for the season. 

And Coach Hall and his Mighty Eleventh Grade PRIME team finished third in the eleventh grade grouping. 

Several other Select teams in the Showcase finished with a 2 - 1 record but lost their first game that kicked them out of the championship brackets. All our ten teams in the tournament did well.  Kudos to all.

Coach Shepherd and his Mighty Second Grade Atlanta Select "The PUNISHERS" elected to play baseball during the Spring and early Summer and will begin their basketball season now. While playing baseball this season they captured the 7U World Series Championship. This was their mission this season and they accomplished it.They also finished 3rd in the State and 9th in the Southeast region as well. They earned a total of four baseball trophies this season.

With so many Select teams playing in the same tournament it is a normal fact that at least two Select teams will play each other. Coach Hill and his Mighty 9th Grade SILVER played Coach Ricker and his Mighty 9th Grade CLASSIC for 4th and 5th place in the tournament. An exciting game with Coach Hill finishing on top. It was a hard fought game but a friendly brother to brother game.

The Mighty 11th Grade SILVER finished 2 - 1 in the Showcase and went home to pack for their trip to Las Vegas on yesterday (Monday). They will be playing in the major new Las Vegas Showcase tournament, "The Vegas Finals"

The Team will be playing in the national showcase tournament starting tomorrow. They will be facing teams from California, Maryland and Texas in Pool Play.

After the USBA Nationals they donated their team shoes to USBA to give to the under served communities.  What a Class act. On February 1, 2014 the Select Nation Executive Group announced that our theme for this season would be "Goals". Each coach was given a shirt with our theme and was told to establish goals for themselves and their team. 

In addition one of the goals for the organization was to earn 100 trophies by September 1, 2014.  We have surpassed that number on July 6, 2014, approximately 2 months ahead of schedule.

Why a Trophy goal?

Something to achieve by motivating the Select Nation teams to strive for perfection.

In reality we do not care if our teams earned trophies or not but that our boys and girls basketball skills are better than they were on Feb 1, 2014. And that our boys and girls are better students and citizens.

We have over 300 student athletes in our program and we feel confident that we are providing a sound and meaningful program to them all.

The Select Nation established a goal of 100 trophies to be earned by its 32 active teams by September 1, 2014. We are well on our way to reach that goal two months in advance of that date. Congratulations to the hard work by the Select Nation.
