Hey! We Travel Too. 9u Boys Team RED
Not only the older age groups of Atlanta Select student athletes travel, the younger ones too. Recently, the mighty 9u Boys Team RED traveled to Charlotte, NC to participate in the QCAA tournament, February 19 -21, 2010. This was their first tournament of the year.
The team played well, finishing 1 -2 for the tournament. But in addition to playing basketball the team bonded as the took in the sites of the city and enjoyed each others company. I am confident that during their next trip they will play well and also have more fun.
Great job Coach KJ James and the mighty 9u Boys Team RED. Go Select!

Can it be the shoes? - Reason # 3
It's Reason number #3, Not the shoes.
This is another reason to select Atlanta Select as your Youth Basketball organization. No, It is not the shoes, but the Decentralized Implementation of the Atlanta Select mission.
It is Reason number 3. The organization states the colors and the quality of the shoes for the organization = Centrally Directed. The individual teams select the shoes that the team wears = Decentralized Implementation.
One team likes Adidas "The Young Guns", another likes Nike "ZM Soldier III" as shown above. These shoes will be worn by two different Mighty 15u Boys Atlanta Select teams this season.
Bottom line - The head coach of each team has control of his plans and budget for his team following the guidelines in the Coaches SOP. Reason number 3!

The Shoes >>>>>>>
Another reason to select Atlanta Select As your Youth Basketball Program.
Atlanta Select teams have the option of selecting the shoe that they want as long as it meets the dress and quality codes of the organization. Nike, Jordan's, Adidas, etc.. can be select in the color combination of RED/BLACK/WHITE/SILVER.
Picture above is the shoe for the mighty 15u Boys WHITE Team. All the shoes are the "Young Guns" except one, the TCreator in size 20 for one of the team's student athlete. Look Good, Feel Good, Play Good. A positive Image!
Atlanta Select>>>>Echocardiogram - Reason 6.
Checking for a healthy heart >>> Echocardiogram.
One of the ten reasons to select Atlanta Select as your Youth Basketball Program.
All Atlanta Select student athletes will be given as part of the "Life Skills" program an "Echocardiogram". This test uses ultrasound to examine the heart chambers, valves and the the lining of the heart. The purpose is to detect hidden heart problems. Too many student athletes are victims of unmonitored and preventable health consequences. The test is another reason to select Atlanta Select. This test is included in the registration at no additional charge to the student athlete.

Atlanta Select 9u Boys Team RED - See It Through!
Our youngest team, at this time, the mighty Atlanta Select 9u Boys Team RED, believes in our organization's adopted poem- "See It Through". This poem about perseverance, supports our motto of Confident, Aggressive, Relentless, SYNERGY. These student athletes did not play in a major tournament last season, but consistently came to practice, believing that their coach had a plan.
Coach Keithen James, KJ, had a plan. Prepared, practice, discipline, commitment, loyalty, travel, exposure, success. The team has several out of state tournaments scheduled for this season, becoming a "Travel Team", showcasing their talents, not only in Georgia, but throughout the nation. The exposure these student athletes will received will propel them in the eyes of the basketball world, quickly and profoundly. Let's follow them closely, this season.
These eight student athletes are playing in the QCAA tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina, February 19-21, 2010. We wish them much success and to "See It Through"!

Health Screening - Atlanta Select
Atlanta Select Basketball Association Implements Student Athlete Health Screening.
Atlanta Select programs are based on three principles: Education, Life Skills and Sports. "Good Health" is a critical "Life Skills" element. We recognize that athletes and "good health" are interwoven elements. Too many student athletes are victims of unmonitored and preventable health consequences.
Atlanta Select has formed a partnership with the Vital Health Care Group to provide baseline health screening, including performing a state of the art assessment of the heart which is vital to health and athletic performance. This service will begin in the Spring of 2010 and will be provide to all of Atlanta Select's participating student athletes.

Recognizing Excellence
Atlanta Select congratulates all "Star" student athletes who work hard at their craft as a student and as an athlete. Khaalidah Miller above, flanked by two recent football scholarship signees, is a "Star" basketball player at Douglass High School. She has committed to play basketball at the University of Georgia this coming Fall.
Khaalidah was profiled recently in the ESPN Rise Magazine in which she graced the cover. This outstanding athlete has lead her school and AAU teams to very successful outcomes. Credit is given to her demanding outstanding high school coach, Coach Vernise Harris-Hill who has guided Khaalidah and her team mates to excel in the classroom and the basketball court.
Khaalidah is pictured above with Coach Harris-Hill, Cheryl Wade (planning to to attend FAMU) and Chelsea Warfield (planning to attend Saint John University).

2010 National Signing Day - Former Atlanta Select Players.
It's an honor to be in attendance at the signing ceremony of your former student athletes as they sign a "Letter of Intent" to attend a college of their choice and receive a scholarship to do so.
On February 3, 2010, I witnessed the signing of Garrison Smith and Acey Palmer. Garrison plans to attend the University of Georgia and Acey the Air Force Academy, both to play football. Garrison will join Khaalidah Miller at UGA as she will be on full scholarship playing basketball (See follow-on article). Acey will be in the foothills of the Colorado mountains preparing to fly across the football field and the mountains.
Atlanta Select are proud of these young student athletes and all other student athletes who earned an opportunity to move to the next level - Good Luck and God Speed!

THEN & NOW -- Thanks for Sticking With Us.
Coach G Stewart and Coach Gates started with the Atlanta Select back in October 2005. Since that time they have groomed a core group of student athletes that are still in the program today. Over this 5 year period their teams have won over 50 trophies to included several national championships.
One reason for their success is that they have had a group of core players that joined the organization in 2006 and remain with the organization today in 2010. This loyal group of players have learned to work together displaying the true concept of SYNERGY.
Additional players have joined this team and are demonstrating the same dedication and loyalty as the original members.
We salute the Atlanta Select 13u Boys Black team that was started when they were eight years old. Keep up the good work.
