ATLANTA SELECT COACHES MEETING

The coaches of the Atlanta Select met recently for a "Chip - Sip - Lip" session. You really had to be there to experience the group dynamics. The meeting met its purpose of bringing a large majority of the Select coaches together to exchange ideas. The general theme was SYNERGY and it shows that SYNERGY works! Pictured above are representatives from 27 of the 32 Atlanta Select teams.

The Atlanta Select 17u Boys Teams make frequent visits to Stone Mountain, and not for sight seeing. You have to be an Atlanta Select to know what the trips are all about. But you can hurry up and believe that the trips are noteworthy.

Atlanta Select 15u Boys Team Black played "Above the Rim" during the recent AAU Super Regional. Check the "Link" posted by Mat Citron in the "Guest Book" for more pictures of outstanding play by this team. Note - Check the score on the scoreboard for the "Guest" team.

CONGRATULATIONS - 14U BOYS TEAM WHITE

Congratulations to the 14u Boys Team White coached by Coaches Wallace Lanier and Thomarus Jones for their second place win in the YBOA Marietta TCB Classic, March 6-8, 2009. This team earned the first trophy for the Atlanta Select for the 2009 season. We feel confident that they will earn several more. The trophy count goal for the organization this season is 90. We have 89 more to earn and next weekend we plan to add to the count as several teams begin to play AAU.

YOU ONLY HAVE ONE TIME TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION!

Within the first three seconds of a new encounter, you are evaluated - even if it is just a glance. Once a first impression is made, it is virtually impossible to change it. But you can change it.

People say what you wear on the outside is a reflection of who you are on the inside. The best thing we can do is to dress for ourselves. So if what you are wearing is giving a "false" impression of the true you, then it is time to make a change. You are meeting new people each day and they are willing to accept the new and "changed" you.

Atlanta Select believes we can change, and that we all can make an excellent "First Impression". Let's just do it!

12U BOYS TEAM BLACK - "DO SOMETHING" CAMPAIGN

Life Skills projects are part of the mandate of the Atlanta Select Basketball Association. We recently launched the "Do Something" Campaign in which our teams and they family members take on meaningful projects in their community.

The 12u Boys Team BLACK (Coach G. Stewart) completed a community project at West Manor Elementary School in Atlanta recently. Team members and their parents refurbished the basketball court making it more play ground friendly for the elementary students. The team members learned that they can always "Do Something" to give back to the community. This team has scheduled at least 20 hours of community projects for this season. Kudos to the mighty 12u Boys Team BLACK.

14U BOYS TEAM WHITE OPENS THE SEASON WITH a 3 - 1 RECORD

Let's Get It On!

Atlanta Select Teams are ready for the 2009 season. Opponents this season, will see a "Brick Wall" as they try to penetrate the defense of our teams, and then, wonder "What Happen" when they try to stop our offense. For example, the Atlanta Select 14u Boys Team WHITE participated in the "True Hoops Super Scrimmage" on Saturday, February 28, 2009, winning three of four games, by demonstrating SYNERGY and being Confident, Aggressive and Relentless.

GAME 1, was against Georgia Fast Break. This was a very competitive game that was only resolved in the final seconds. With 20 seconds remaining on the clock, Team WHITE lead by one point, however, Fast Break drove down the court, hit a ten footer to edge Team WHITE by one point for the win. But after that, it was all over for the other teams facing Team WHITE.

GAME 2, Team WHITE defeated the Georgia Stars by more then 15 points.

GAME 3, Team WHITE played up against the Aftershock's 15u Boys. The game went back and forth, but in the final minutes Team White turned up the defense. Leading by only two points with four seconds on the clock, Aftershock tried to inbound the ball, but aggressive defense by Marquise Lanier resulted in the ball being stolen by Lanier and passed to Frank Barthemy who made a long three pointer, icing the win for Team WHITE by five points. The Aftershock were shocked.

Game 4, Team White defeated the Speed Demons by more then 15 points.

The Atlanta Select 14u Boys Team White is pictured above and below, along with their Head Coach, Wallace Lanier. This team is solid as a "Brick Wall" and is prepared to withstand any force encountered. The Atlanta Select congratulates Coach Lanier and the mighty 14u Boys Team WHITE on their dynamic beginning and feel assured that they will have a very successful season.
